Museum With No Frontiers – Discover Islamic Art

National Museums Scotland has joined thirty-five museums from fifteen countries in Europe and the south and east of the Mediterranean to cooperate in a ground-breaking and visionary web project, the EU-funded ‘Museum With No Frontiers’.

This virtual museum’s pilot project is Discover Islamic Art - the first in a planned cycle of collaborative exhibitions which give online access to magnificent global collections, encouraging people to learn more about them and the stories behind them. Visit the site to explore examples of Islamic art and their context, from countries across Europe, including the UK, Spain and Germany, to North Africa, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Turkey.

Museum With No Frontiers is the largest ever trans-national museum on the web, linking museum collections with historical monuments, archaeological sites and even historically significant landscapes from all the participating countries. The project enables partners to present history, art and culture from their own perspective and to contribute to a collaborative interpretation of artistic and historical themes. The site is available in Arabic, English and French, with collections information also in Spanish.
