Information for visitors with disabilities

Parking at the Museum

Four designated public parking spaces are available for disabled visitors in Chambers Street. There is no charge for these spaces. However, please note that they are not bookable. You can find out more about getting to the Museum here.

Access

There is a level entrance to the Museum via the Tower entrance at the corner of Chambers Street.

Wheelchairs are available for loan at no charge and public lifts are available to all floors. There is a variety of seating throughout the Museum.

Adapted toilets are available. Some have baby changing units and two have changing benches for older children.

There is an induction loop at the Museum Information Desk and in the Dunfermline Room lecture theatre.

'Hearing Helper' radio aids are available for loan at no charge from the audio guide desk for guided tours and talks, to help visitors, whether hard of hearing or not, hear the guide. Audio guides, in various languages, are available for all visitors to the Museum.

Personal Access Guides

For those who have difficulty seeing the exhibits or reading the information about them, a Personal Access Guide can be booked by telephoning 0131 247 4206. There is no charge for this service. At least two weeks' notice is appreciated.

Guide dogs, hearing dogs and other recognised assistance dogs are admitted.

Touch tours

To arrange a special tour with handling sessions for visitors with visual impairments, call the Learning and Programmes administrators on 0131 246 4041. Please give two weeks' notice.

Signed tours (BSL)

If you wish to book a BSL interpreter for any tours or other events, please email schools@nms.ac.uk, giving at least two weeks' notice.
