Storytelling in the museum - imagine that!
Find out how we're celebrating National Family Week and Refugee
Week, and preparing for the opening of a new gallery.
One of the most innovative and exciting new spaces in the
transformed National Museum of Scotland is the Imagine gallery.
This family gallery will give young children a chance to
create their own stories, pictures and models, all inspired by real
objects from around the world.
Within Imagine will be a Story Place, where families can explore
the ways in which stories are made and how they are told.
In preparation for the opening of Imagine, National Museums
Scotland is holding two weekend-long storytime
events. The first will be held on the weekend of 5-6 June, in
conjunction with National Family Week, and will tell stories
inspired by animals in our collection. The second will be held as
part of Refugee Week, on 20 June, and takes the theme of Travelling
Tales.
Visitors will hear stories from professional storyteller Heather
Yule and have the chance to explore Storybags, created by Family
Learning and Refugee groups alongside members of the National
Museums Scotland Community Engagement team. These groups have also
worked with Heather to create their own stories, which Heather will
tell in addition to traditional Scottish folk tales.
You can find out more about these
events here.
