Unique Venues of Edinburgh

Thistle Award logo 2008 Unique Venues of Edinburgh (UVE) has won the Business Tourism Award at the Scottish Thistle Awards 2008.

Unique Venues of Edinburgh (UVE) was set up in May 2004, and launched in June 2005 as a marketing consortium of venues throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians.

It provides an easy to use, one-stop shop for clients seeking unique venues within the area (not hotels, conference centres, stadia or restaurants) and ultimately, generates additional business for all its members. There are now 26 members which have more than doubled in three years, a great indication of its success.
It is a membership organisation run by members, all on a voluntary basis, for its members, which takes a lot of drive and creativity to ultimately provide a service to our clients. The National Museum of Scotland and the National Museum of Flight are two of its members.

UVE is also a great example of the benefits of working in partnership, and a growing number of UVE members have seen significant revenue growth as a result. The consortium has managed enquiries to the value of almost £4 million, while cross-referral of business between venues and collaborative marketing initiatives (including a UVE website, newsletters and cost-effective exposure at a wide range of events and exhibitions) as well as valuable networking and benchmarking opportunities, have contributed to UVE's success at bringing business tourism to the area.

"We are all absolutely delighted to have won this award. It is in recognition of the hard work and dedication we all have put into making UVE the success it is today, and to the concept of partnership working in its truest sense" - Carolyn Gemmell, Chair UVE and Director of Hospitality and Events, National Museums Scotland.
